I tried my hand at moon photography today. I had read in the papers that the moon was going to appear very large and bright today and that this phenomenon comes only once every year…
“This lunar phenomenon occurs only once a year, and is due to the proximity of the moon to the earth. Known as perigee, the moon will be at its closest approach to the earth at approximately 357,448 km. At apogee, the furthest point away from an object in orbit, the moon is approximately 405,363 km from Earth…..
…The best time to experience the “perigee” moon will be at sunset tonight. If you can, place a tree or other object in front of the rising moon while the moon is still low on the horizon. This optical illusion will make the moon look even larger than it already appears.
If your skies are clear tonight, grab some hot coco, head outside and look to the east at sunset. It should be a beautiful sight. “
